CHARPAK SCHOLARSHIP:

France Excellence Charpak is the French government scholarship programme in India. It is divided into 4 sub-programmes and allows Indian students to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels in public and private institutions in France.

a)  France Excellence Charpak Bachelor: offered to Indian students admitted in a full time bachelor's programme in France.

  • Student visa and Etudes en France fee waiver

  • Assistance to find affordable accommodation (priority access to CROUS residencies, subject to availability                     The scholarship is awarded for the entire length of the Bachelor’s programme.                

b)  France Excellence Charpak Master: offered to Indian students admitted in a master's programme in France. The scholarship is renewable once, upon request and based on the results obtained by the scholarship holder in the first year of the master's programme.

c)  France Excellence Charpak Lab: open to graduate and post graduate students pursuing studies in engineering, science, management and humanities, who wish to attend an internship/research project at a French laboratory or university during their academic break (May-July)

BENEFITS

The scholarship covers the following benefits

  • Monthly stipend of 700 euros for maximum 2 months (preferably between May and July) provided by the Embassy of France in India
  • Student visa and Etudes en France fees waiver

d)  France Excellence Charpak Exchange: open to Indian students of all profiles, studying at the bachelor’s or master's level, who study in France for a semester in the framework of a partnership between their Indian establishment and a French host institution. It is offered twice a year: Autumn session (September-December) and Spring session (January-May/June)

EIFFEL SCHOLARSHIP:

LEVEL OF STUDY AND DURATION

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program is offered at :

  • Masters level, for a duration between 12 and 36 months
  • Doctorate or Ph.D. level, for research periods in France of up to 12 months

BENEFITS
  • At Master's level - a monthly allowance of €1,181 (a maintenance allowance of €1,031 and a monthly stipend of €150).
  • At Doctoral or PhD level - a monthly allowance of €1,700

RAMAN CHARPAK FELLOWSHIP:

The Raman–Charpak Fellowship programme is in honour of two Nobel Laureates in Physics, Prof C.V. Raman, Indian Nobel Laureate (1930) and Prof Georges Charpak, French Nobel Laureate (1992). The Fellowship was launched during the State visit of the President of France to India during in February, 2013. The aim is to facilitate the exchange of doctoral students between the two countries, in order to broaden the scope and depth of future engagements in Science, Technology and Innovation. This programme implemented by the Indo French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/ CEFIPRA) aims at improving the doctoral skills of Indian and French students by providing them an opportunity to carry out part of their research work in a University / Research & Development Institute based in France or India respectively. This programme is now also open to French Master Students, who wish to spend some time in India in accordance to their curriculum. It aims at improving the Masters skills of French students by providing them an opportunity to carry out internship work in a University / Research Institute based in India.

DURATION:

2 to 6 months

FIELDS OF STUDY:

Atmospheric Sciences, Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences, Materials Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Biological Sciences, Life and Medical Sciences, Mathematical and Computational Sciences.


ELIGIBILITY

* Applicants from India must be Indian citizens residing in India who have registered for a PhD in a recognized university or research institution in India
* Applicants from France must be residing in France who have registered for a PhD/masters in a recognized university or research institution in France
* Have a Master’s degree (in science, technology or medicine) from a recognized University/Institute.
* Age: Maximum 30 years
* Students once supported by CEFIPRA, also in the framework of CEFIPRA projects, and students who have a permanent position in institutions/universities are not eligible
* The applicant should have pre-authorization or prior consent from his/her Institute/University to apply for a foreign fellowship program.

FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS:

* For an Indian Fellow: Fellowship Support of 1500 Euros per month for daily expenses, local travel, accommodation charges plus Social Security charges
* For a French Fellow: Fellowship support Rs. 40,000 per month for daily expenses, local travel, etc. plus accommodation charges not exceeding Rs. 45,000 per month
* One return airfare ticket in economy class between India and France
* Insurance coverage (travel & health) wherever required
* Any administrative costs for Visa and Registration, if any
* Carte de Sejour, if any
* Additional support (up to Euro 500 for Indian Fellows and equivalent support in Indian Rupees for French Fellows) for participating in a Seminar/Workshop during their term of the fellowship and stay in their host countries; limited to registration fees, travel & accommodation charges.


REQUIREMENTS:

* The proposal must include the following information (in English):
* Detailed description of the research project (up to 5 pages) stating the title of Research work with an explanation of how the planned work will benefit the candidate during his/her stay in proposed Research Institute / University in France /India.
* Candidates must also enclose the following documents:
* A CV (up to 3 pages) with recent photograph including summary of achievements and research interests, list relevant publications, etc.
* A letter of recommendation from the Ph.D. supervisor in his/her native lab.
* A letter of recommendation and agreement from the proposed supervisor in the fellowship lab (Foreign Research Institute / University).
* PhD synopsis or short summary of PhD work (up to 3 pages only).
* Research experience letter or publications as proof (first author or co-author).
* No objection certificate from Head of the Institution.
* Scanned copy of highest degree certificate.
* Scanned copy of PhD registration letter.
* A scan copy of passport (both front and back).
* A recent photograph.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) or COP26 take place from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow (United Kingdom). France, as a major actor in the fight against climate change and guarantor of the spirit of Paris Agreement, implements a new MOPGA visiting fellowship program that aims to take part in the strengthening of science contribution to the challenges raised by the COPs.

France’s Ministries of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MESRI) in collaboration with Campus France, have implemented a visiting fellowships program for young researcher, Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA), to welcome young foreign researchers wishing to conduct further research in France.


The MOPGA Fellowship Program for Early Career Researchers will be supporting researchers working on topics related to:


* earth system sciences,

* climate change and sustainability sciences,

* energy transition,

* societal challenges of environmental issues,

* human, animal and ecosystem health as part as a "One Health" approach.



ELIGIBILITY:

Individuals fitting the following criteria are eligible to apply:

* Researchers holding a doctoral degree for less than 5 years (must have passed their thesis defense between January 2019 and January 2024)
* Researchers who have not resided in France between October 9th 2023 and January 9th 2024 (more than 90 days)
* All foreign nationals except French

FINANCING:

40 fellowships will be awarded over a 12-month period from September 2024. The fellowship includes the following benefits:

* Monthly allowance of 2,500 euros 
* Moving allowance of 500 euros
* Support for social security coverage
* Support for complimentary health insurance

A visiting fellowship agreement with the French host institution will be established between the institutions and the laureates. It will specify the means and resources made available by the host laboratory in France so that the researcher can carry out the research project.

In the first phase, scientific experts in the covered fields will evaluate the applications received.
